About Debbie Stewart Wellness

I had always been interested in fitness — I played soccer, enjoyed swimming and riding my bike as a teenager. I built a career in the aquatic industry and discovered the joy of running and strength training. Patrons constantly asked me questions about nutrition, but I didn't have the answers they needed. So I went back to school to study holistic nutrition because it encompassed everything I believed about wellness — supporting your body, mind, and spirit.

Unfortunately, when my mum passed while I was in school, everything changed. I gained weight and my joints started hurting. First came persistent back pain, then knee pain. The knee pain was the worst because it kept me from enjoying the activities I loved and meant losing out on quality family time too.

I tried every diet I could think of — chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage therapy. They would all work, but only for a short time. Then the weight would come back on and the persistent pain became worse. All the diet books and "wellness" gurus couldn't help me. I was disheartened, frustrated, and ready to give up and just accept this was my life from now on.

Thankfully, I was in the right place. The education I was receiving was actually helping me understand why my body seemed to hate me. I was doing ALL the wrong things. Turns out you can't take advice meant for a 20-something year old when you're in your 40s! What worked for me in my 20s definitely hadn't been working this time.

Once I understood the importance of real nutrition and treating my mind right, the page turned for me. I was learning how to listen to my body, probably for the first time ever! I was feeding it whole, nutritious foods, moving in a way that wasn't killing myself at the gym, and not depriving it of the necessary foods and nutrients it needed. My weight normalized, my joint pain improved dramatically, and I could enjoy activities with my family again.

After I saw such a drastic change in myself with this way of living, it cemented that I had absolutely chosen the right career path. I was now able to put it all together and start helping people.

Now I help women 40+ who want to lose weight but have joint pain and don't want to spend hours at the gym, count calories, or cut carbs.
